Initiatives and main programmes
1. Web portal of the Basque Archives System. The public and private historical archives of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country can be accessed on this portal: 650,000 descriptions of documents from the 13th to 20th centuries, and 3.5 million digital images. In addition to this, there is the historical population census of the Basque Country (5.5 million personal records from 1500 to 1900, obtained from completely clearing the sacramental records).
2. Digitisation of the Archive resources, in order to supply the Basque Digital Memory in the field of Documentary Heritage.
3. Committees and working groups are currently focused on the Valuation and Expurgation Commissions for administrative documentation in the field of Municipal Archives, the Basque Health Service (Osakidetza) network, and Court Records.
4. Support programmes for the management of the network of local administration archives (municipal, Cuadrillas de Alava [Counties of Alava], etc.) and non-public archives (with particular emphasis on the organisation of family records) embodied in two annual subsidy orders.
